Dear friends:
I am extremely pleased to announce that Al Salas, chairman of the Miami Dade College Foundation Board of Directors and a proud MDC alumnus, will receive the 2022 Outstanding Alumni Award from the American Association of Community Colleges, during its annual celebration in May. This national recognition is given to community college alumni making outstanding contributions in their chosen career fields and communities.
There are not many alumni, if any at all, who are more passionate about the college and our students than Al. That passion is reflected in his leadership, generosity and continued support of the College. He is always engaged, ready to mobilize on behalf of students and a fixture at all our important gatherings and events. In fact, he has raised the bar to which all volunteers serving on boards should aspire, and we owe him a debt of gratitude.
From serving as an area manager with Burger King in his teens to today being the largest Hispanic – and one of the most successful – Pizza Hut franchisees in the nation, he has always been passionate about his work and elevating others. And, throughout his career, he has always remained connected to MDC.
