Dear MDC family:
Congratulations to the Lady Sharks for once again winning the FCSAA State Volleyball Championship this weekend! They defeated Polk State College 3-0.
Sophomore Janelly Ceopa (18 kills, 7 digs, 1 ace) was named Most Outstanding Player in the Tournament and named to the All-Tournament Team. Teammates Romina Cornelio, Carolina Takahashi, and Kiaraliz Perez were also named to the All-Tournament Team. A special thank you to coach Kiko Benoit and his staff for guiding the Lady Sharks to victory.
The Sharks have punched their ticket for a chance to complete at the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS Nov. 17-20. They enter the tournament 16-3.
MDC’s Department of Athletics prides itself in the advancement of academic achievement and sports success. MDC teams have earned a total of 35 NJCAA national titles, including 15 in women’s sports. Our student athletes have succeeded everywhere from the playing court to the board room. Many MDC sports alumni are members of the halls of fame in their respective collegiate and professional sports. Many are leaders in business and industry, which makes me especially proud.
