Dear MDC family,
Since its founding, Miami Dade College has always been an incubator of inclusion and diversity, where everyone is welcome, valued and respected. MDC was the first state college to integrate in the early 1960s. More recently, we have redoubled our efforts to promote our values of equity and access, to support a culture of care and to accelerate academic excellence for all through groundbreaking initiatives such as MOSAIC, Rising Black Scholars, and Data Science 4 All, to name a few. We have been intentional and intrusive by making these guiding principles the foundation of our new strategic plan.
Today, I am extremely pleased to announce that MDC has been certified with the Seal of Excelencia, the nation’s highest distinction for driving Hispanic student achievement. Receiving the Seal of Excelencia affirms Miami Dade College is truly advancing Hispanic student success and completion by focusing on data, evidenced-based best practices and leadership, which expands career pathways for Latinos in the new global economy. Moreover, MDC is the only community college to receive this prestigious distinction this year. We applaud Excelencia
in Education’s transformative work in helping colleges and universities across the nation remove the barriers and inequities confronting Latino students. It is the nation’s leading organization in accelerating Latino student success in higher education by promoting Latino student achievement, conducting analysis to inform educational policies, and advancing institutional practices while collaborating with those committed and ready to meet the mission. We are proud to be an exemplar institution on this front and grateful for our longtime collaboration with Excelencia in Education.
Please watch the ceremony live right now -
Launched nearly two decades ago in the nation’s capital, Excelencia has established a network of results-oriented educators and policymakers to address the U.S. economy’s needs for a highly educated workforce and engaged civic leaders.
Thank you to our faculty and staff for making MDC a place where all students can succeed. This important work must always continue and drive our objectives as we reimagine for student success.
With much gratitude,
Madeline |
