Dear MDC family,
It is important that we all take a moment to acknowledge the hard work of our students. It is the recognition of individual commitment and effort. But it is also about others – the family who supported them, friends that stepped in to help when needed, and a favorite faculty member who inspired and encouraged them. This graduation is even more meaningful in this respect, as we all have been dealing with the impacts of a global pandemic. A student accomplishing their academic work during this unprecedented time is especially worth celebrating.
As we approach MDC’s favorite day of the year, this commencement is particularly exciting as it’s taking place in a new venue and in a new format. This fresh start is indicative of greater things to come, for our College, our community, and particularly our graduates.
To ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff, the ceremonies will be held outdoors, with limited capacity and physical distancing. Graduates will be provided up to two tickets for family and friends to attend. Student guest ticket distribution begins at noon today at campus Student Life offices and will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. Visit the Commencement webpage for additional details at https://www.mdc.edu/commencement.
College Trustees and select faculty and administrators will also be present to help commemorate this special day. Graduates’ family and friends may also virtually cheer on their graduates by watching the ceremonies via livestream from anywhere in the world. Additional safety measures will include temperature checks upon entering the stadium, mandatory face masks at all times, and hand sanitizing stations available throughout. The safety of everyone present is our highest priority.
During 2020-2021 academic year, we had more than 14,000 graduates who have gained a certificate, an associate degree, or a bachelor's degree, from MDC’s eight campuses. We are extremely proud of every student who has come to MDC and made their educational dreams a reality.
Commencement times are listed below, as well as our special guests and honorary degree recipients. Log on to watch our distinguished speakers and cheer on our latest group of students walking across the stage and turning their tassels. And remember to use the hashtag #MDCGrad to join the virtual celebration on social media. Let your friends and family know so they too can participate. We will project everyone’s tweets, photos, and posts on our Live Social Wall during each ceremony.
I look forward to seeing our graduates at the commencement ceremonies as we celebrate their academic achievements. Congratulations MDC's Class of 2021!
May you all remain safe and healthy as we look forward to this big day.
